We’re seeking an experienced Payments Relationship Manager we are looking for to join our Payments team in Barcelona to go beyond day-to-day operations to focus on a strategic view of payments, connecting the dots between market opportunities, partnership capabilities, and internal product roadmaps. You will be tasked with transforming these partnerships into drivers of new revenue, product innovation, and competitive advantage, with a primary focus on enhancing our customer experience and accelerating Prime membership growth.

The Role’s Key Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Global Scheme & Strategic Partner Management
- Strategic Engagement: Act as the lead point of contact for all schemes, defining and managing a complex roadmap of joint strategic, commercial, and technical initiatives.
- Innovation & Product Strategy: Identify new product opportunities and features by leveraging scheme and partner capabilities. Drive collaborative projects from ideation to implementation, ensuring seamless delivery of new payment products or experiences.
- Commercial Optimization: Proactively define and execute strategies to optimize merchant costs associated with scheme and Amex transactions, while unlocking growth partnerships that drive Prime membership.
- Industry Alignment: Ensure the payment stack and internal processes remain compliant and best-in-class by staying ahead of scheme mandates, innovations, and evolving regulatory environments (e.g., PSD2, 3DS).
2. Payments Strategy & Business Case Development
- Strategic Vision: Support on developing a long-term strategic view for the payments function, identifying new market expansion and revenue opportunities (e.g., Account-to-Account, Payment Orchestration, BNPL, APMs/LPMs, etc.).
- Business Case Leadership: Lead the strategic development of high-priority internal initiatives, partnering with business units (Flights, Hotels, Prime) to build robust commercial cases and financial models that quantify the impact of new payment features.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze global payment performance metrics (approval rates, authentication success, fraud rates) and collaborate with schemes and internal teams to implement data-driven optimization strategies.
3. PSP Management & Operational Excellence
- Strategic Partnership: Manage the full end-to-end relationship with key PSPs, moving from a transaction focus to a strategic partnership that ensures redundancy, smart routing, and innovative feature integration.
- Efficiency & Growth: Negotiate and monitor commercial agreements to optimize processing costs and drive operational excellence in authorization and reconciliation flows.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership
- Drive alignment and secure required capabilities across all internal teams—including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and Risk—to successfully scope, implement, and launch new payment initiatives and partnerships.
- Operational Excellence & AI Adoption: Champion the use of generative AI tools to enhance efficiency in tasks like business case modeling, data summarization, and strategic communication, and actively share best practices for AI adoption and upskilling with team members.

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in a strategic payments, banking, or fintech role, preferably in a high-volume e-commerce or OTA environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and negotiating complex, strategic relationships with major card schemes (Visa, Mastercard) or top-tier issuing banks/PSPs.
- Profound understanding of the global payments ecosystem, including card issuing, acquiring, scheme rules, fraud management, and compliance (PSD2/SCA).
- Excellent executive presence, negotiation, and communication skills, with a track record of driving strategic consensus among diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with the ability to build and defend data-driven business cases for multi-million euro initiatives.
- AI Fluency (Preferred): Proven knowledge and experience leveraging generative AI tools (e.g., Gemini for Docs, Sheets, or Gmail) for enhanced productivity, strategic analysis, and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Applied AI Tools: Demonstrated comfort using practical AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI-powered coding assistants.
- Experimentation Mindset: Curiosity and eagerness to explore, experiment with, and integrate emerging AI-driven solutions into software development workflows.
- AI-Enhanced Problem Solving: Ability to effectively leverage AI tools to debug code, streamline development processes, and enhance productivity.
- Adaptability and Learning Agility: Enthusiastic about continuously learning and quickly adapting to new AI features and capabilities.
- Collaboration with AI: Experience or interest in collaborating closely with AI tools as “pair programmers” to complement traditional software development practices.
